Corrosion of Conformity's Reed Mullin Suffers Alcohol-related Seizure in Edmonton
Published Jun 06, 2016Corrosion of Conformity drummer Reed Mullin suffered a seizure last night (June 5) ahead of a performance in Edmonton, which has led to the rest of the band confirming that they will be pressing on without him as he deals with alcohol and drug dependency issues.
Bassist Mike Dean delivered news of the lineup shake-up today (June 6) in a Facebook post, which explains that fellow co-founder Mullin "has been unwell for awhile."
Dean noted that Mullin's seizure, which took place just before the metal act were to step onstage at Edmonton's Shaw Conference Centre, was preceded by "prolonged, extreme and unhealthy levels of alcohol consumption, not taking care of himself and who-knows-what else." Mullin is currently in an Edmonton hospital.
The bassist added that this was not the first time Mullin's health has affected band tours, with a similar seizure during a tour with Clutch a few years back leading to the cancellation of five shows. Corrosion of Conformity will close out their current tour with Lamb of God and Clutch, with those bands' drummers helping out by playing a few COC songs each.
"Reed has been unwell for awhile and we are praying he gets the help he needs and that he seek treatment for alcohol and drug dependency, not to mention general lifestyle assistance," Dean wrote. "This time we are leaving Reed with the medical experts in Edmonton and pressing on w the help of Jean Paul Gaster and Chris Adler, who quickly learned some songs. The show went on and will go on but we will not enable Reed to continue killing himself on our watch."

Dean and Mullin founded Corrosion of Conformity in 1982, and have seen the band go through a litany of lineup and style shifts over the years. Mullin exited the band in 2001, but returned to the fold in 2010.
