Said the Whale Create "Record Shop" Video by Animating 129 Spinning Vinyl LPs
The clip was created entirely without computer effects

Vancouver pop-rock faves Said the Whale's previous music video won both a Leo Award and the Audience Award at the Prism Prize. Now, they've released the ambitious follow-up in the form of a video for "Record Shop."The song comes from this year's Cascadia LP, and it's a visually stunning clip that was made entirely without visual effects. Instead, the video animates the band members via cut-out photos pasted onto 129 spinning vinyl records. It's based on a form on animation called a phénakisticope, which was first used back in the 1800s.
The "Record Shop" video was directed by Johnny Jansen, who also directed the award-winning "UnAmerican" video (which similarly didn't use computer effects). This latest clip is the perfect accompaniment to the crunchy guitars and bouncy pop hooks of "Record Shop" — and it's thematically appropriate for the song's lyrics about music appreciation.
