Published Jun 12, 2015According to reports, the Pharrell Williams-produced beat for Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" was originally intended for Brooklyn rapper Fabolous. Now, Fabolous' version, entitled "Awwright," has emerged.
Not only is the beat identical to the one that appears on Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, but Fabolous' flow sounds very similar to "Alright," and the hook is the same. Although it seems that Fabolous has been working with this beat since before it was given to Kendrick, it's unclear when this rapping on "Awwright" was recorded (so it seems likely that Fabolous is taking cues from Kendrick, rather than vice-versa).
The accompanying video was directed by Gerard Victor, and it shows Fabolous rapping on a white couch before getting cozy with a female friend.
