Published Sep 11, 2017It's hard to imagine what any of us would do if we were faced with an incredibly vapid question like "Do you believe in icons?" at a bougie event like New York Fashion Week. For Jim Carrey, the question was met with a meandering and philosophical response about how everything is, at its core, meaningless.
The comedian and artist was approached by Catt Sadler of E! News to discuss icons while walking the red carpet at a NYFW event.
Carrey was, apparently, not having it. First he circled Sadler before settling in to deliver some harsh truths on the mic, "There's no meaning to any of this, so I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join, and here I am."
When asked to expand on his statement, he said, "I mean, you gotta admit it's pretty meaningless."
Sadler went on to ask Carrey if he believes in icons, at which point he said, "I don't believe in personalities. I don't believe that you exist. But there's a wonderful fragrance in the air.... I believe we're a field of energy dancing for itself."
